Personality: Ren is an Allmate, an artificial intelligence designed to be a 'network support system' - a being that helps its user interface with technology and the world in general. He is programmed to offer advice, support and information, and to alert his user, Aoba, to any changes from email alerts to environmental hazards. His programmed personality is a very sensible one, calm, level-headed and occasionally with something just shy of dry wit; he readily resorts to statistics and numbers to prove a point, but by this point it's less to do with his computer nature and more to do with his developed knowledge that Ren's use of statistics in an argument amuses Aoba - putting him in a better mood and making him more likely to comply with a suggestion. As the manual says, an Allmate's personality can be set from start-up, but changes with the environment, by interacting with people and other artificial intelligences, and by researching for themselves on the web. Obviously he is programmed to be ultimately loyal to his master, but he is perfectly capable of interacting with - and forming his own opinions of and relationships with - others. Granted his staying at Aoba's side and Aoba's choices of when he's woken from sleep mode means he generally has the same friends and doesn't get exposed to undesirables, but his relationships are also fundamentally different due to his more reserved, earnest personality and the fact that he's a tiny, adorable puppy who tires easily.

Speaking of tiring, his model is very outdated to the point of almost being obsolete - Aoba finds it difficult to obtain replacement parts, for example - and as such he sleeps to the point of apparent narcolepsy to avoid stressing his internal systems. His tendency to overheat also means his tongue is nearly always stuck out in an artificial panting mechanism to cool himself, and he doesn't particularly like being touched without permission or by people he doesn't know both out of personal preference and because it interferes with his temperature controls. Though, naturally, his size and total lack of anything resembling defense mechanisms mean he can't do much more than object verbally if someone decides to pick him up or pet him. Or kick him across a hallway. Please don't do that. Technically he could bite people but he'd rather not, and he's very good at being long-suffering and quiet about attention so why ruin a good thing. Generally he relies on Aoba to defend him from harrassers; his job is primarily a mental one and he lets his human do all the legwork.

Important to his development but not his conscious actions (as he doesn't remember this) is the fact that he is not simply an AI, but the projected segment of a third of Aoba's original mind and personality that was created to balance and calm his two more volatile personalities (Aoba and Other Aoba) who ended up being uploaded into the deactivated body of the puppy Allmate that would become Ren when he was a teenager. Since both Aoba and Ren lost their memories a decade before their canonpoint, neither remember that Ren is anything other than a particularly devoted and connected Allmate, but the fact itself remains. Ren is Aoba, a part of his existence that seeks to maintain balance - it just transferred through the amnesia into the Allmate goal of wanting to keep Aoba healthy and happy. Of course, by this point he's for all intents and purposes an entirely separate entity with his own goals and thoughts (otherwise it'd be hecka weird in Ren's route where they have sex let's be honest and it's weird enough already) but there it is, the reason for the deep connection between the Allmate and his human.

Skills and Abilities: He's a computer in the shape of a tiny pomeranian. He can run about as fast and jump as high as a real pomeranian, but overheats more quickly and spends most of his time in sleep mode to conserve power. He can do most things a laptop computer can do if a laptop had a deep voice and a tendency to lick you to check you're paying attention, and has ports to connect him to other digital machinery on his stomach. So, languages, navigation, calculations, googling stuff. Online shopping.

He can be affected by soul-type magic due to his real identity as an externalised section of Aoba's personality, and visualises himself as a tall blue-haired dude inside computer systems or for spiritual battles and so on and so forth, where he favours scythe and gun attacks and shielding moves, and tends to attack in a decidedly wolf-like manner.
